Petersburg – The Pike County Economic Development Corporation (PCEDC), in conjunction with the Indiana First Region used READI funds awarded from Indiana Economic Development Corporation to contract Deloitte Consulting to provide a third-party evaluation of three prioritized sites in the Southwest Indiana Megasite. Deloitte partnered with S&ME as a geotechnical analyst to study soil conditions and the types of industry and building structures would be best suited to develop on the previously mined property.

The case study has been requested by site selectors and companies to mitigate development concerns. “The data and information from the study is exactly what we need to market to prospective companies looking to locate their business or expand their business,” was feedback from the Pike County Council President, Jon Craig. Deloitte diligently reviewed the data and removed the questions and/or barriers for developers at the Southwest Indiana Megasite and provided a roadmap to get industry investment and most importantly create new jobs that the coal community needs.

Deloitte Consultants shared, “We applaud the Pike County Economic Development Corporation for its efforts to proactively conduct this evaluation and enhance its understanding of the technical aspects of the SWIM property. This focused work will serve as a catalyst that will enable the community to channel its marketing efforts more strategically, with the goal of fostering new investment and job creation in Pike County.”

Pike County Commission President, Mark Flint stated, “the study that Deloitte has completed is a direct complementary effort for the Building Resilient Economies in Coal Communities (BRECC) Challenge. Pike County will be able to take Deloitte’s recommendations and insert them into the BRECC economic diversification plan to begin implementation.” Pike County, Indiana is in a strong position for business attraction.
